33 years ago, I bought a mug as a souvenir at the Smithsonian. It's been a favorite for the way it fits in my hand, perfect for cradling a hot drink on a cold day. It cracked after decades of use, and I was delighted to find that Bennington Potters is still in business and making this iconic design!
A Lifelong Relationship

I grew up visiting Bennington Potters on annual family day outings to Vermont. It was one of a handful of regular places we would stop along our regular route. My father eventually ended up with a set of Bennington plates, bowls, and trigger mugs, which he brought to his parents' house in Ogunquit, Maine after they had passed. Now that my father, too, has passed on from this world, those trigger mugs hold memories of morning coffee at the antique table, overlooking the river mouth in Ogunquit, chitchatting about our lives and the day ahead. With so much that has changed since I was that kid walking through the old Bennington Potters, it is comforting that the iconic trigger mug lives on and holds for me so many memories.
MY FAVORITE MUGS FOR DECADES

I think I got my first Bennington trigger mugs almost 50 years ago--and they were probably hand-me-downs from my parents! They were white and, over the decades, they got stained from the coffee and tea we drank. So I handed them down to *my* kids. I still have a shiny glaze blue & white speckled mug I picked up at an outlet store in Maine. But my other mugs weren't Benningtons, and they weren't comfortable in my hand. I recently decided to treat myself to 4 new mugs in the matte blue. The lip is much thinner than my old speckled mug, so I'm hoping the new ones are as sturdy. So far I love them.
I also love that they are made in the USA, not just for the historic connection but because real artisans are employed and paid for their labor.
I also used to have trigger soup mugs that were perfect for soup and chili. It looks like they aren't made anymore. If they're ever re-introduced, I'd replace my Fiestaware soup mugs with Bennington trigger soup mugs, too. (Hint, hint.)

My first mug we purchased on a trip to Vermont in the early 90's. I have used this coffee mug every day since. I accidentally dropped and broke it a few weeks ago. I really didn't want to break in a different coffee cup (even though I tried a couple) I love my trigger mug

Yes, my 60 year old trigger mug, the one I used every morning for my cup of coffee finally had its last day. It was an accident that I sadly caused. I immediately ordered a new trigger mug. It's part of my morning and comfort zone (the trigger handle is great). I'm about to turn 80 so I will not have another 60 years, but whatever is left will include my favorite mug for my morning coffee.

I have a thing for mugs, and this one is my hands-down favorite. After I bought it, I donated all my other mugs (some of them hand-made and very expensive) to the thrift store because I no longer used them. The Bennington Potters Tall Trigger Mug was literally the only mug I would reach for in my cupboard. I appreciate the blue agate glaze, which harmonizes with my rustic mountain home. The tall, narrow shape keeps my drink warm longer and gives it a bit of an elevated feel. The narrower width is comfortable to drink from, too, as it gently "cups" your mouth. I have large hands, so most mug handles don't fit my fingers comfortably. Therefore, I wasn't sure I'd like a handle that used only two finger loops. But I love it! Stable and very comfortable. I like the handle's long, continuous attachment point, instead of having two separate, tiny attachment points, like a standard mug handle. And with the handle so compact and close to the body of the mug, it is less likely to get broken. I don't take hot drinks with me in the car, but for those who do, this shape would fit most vehicle cup holders. A dear friend admired my trigger mug so much that I bought her one, too. This makes a thoughtful and affordable birthday or Christmas present that is bound to be loved by the recipient. Bennington Potters, you nailed this one! Please offer it in more glaze options!!

I love this mug, but it developed a small crack in the side over time. So i realized this was a stamped mug and went online to Bennington's website and ordered more. I grew up with these mugs in the 60's and 70's. My parents were coffee drinkers and these were our house mugs. Having lost both of my parents in the last three years, I have been feeling sentimental about my childhood. I ordered a set of the Trigger Mugs thinking they would feel like a souvenir, of sorts, of my childhood. They are a lot more than that.
I love these mugs. Every time I look at them, I smile. They are a great size and the matte glaze, straight sides and trigger handle give this mug a timeless, cool silhouette. The rim is sized to perfection, so its comfortable to sip from and there's no drips. They are a souvenir of my youth, for sure, but even better I love them as much as my parents did.

They had solid blue ones and rust-colored ones.(Not trigger handles) I still have one of the blue ones but when I couldn't get them any more, moved on to the trigger handles ones. I love everything about these mugs. The 2 finger handle is unique and very comfortable to hold. The quality in this pottery is superb! I started with a fluted pie plate and square baker, and I now have several pieces. The mixing bowl with spout and handle is so easy to use and seems to be the right size for so many cooking and baking needs.

I have loved the Bennington trigger mug since buying some in the 80's. When the inside was white, and there were more colors (like pink - loved the pink). And light blue. But the size of the cup and 2 finger grip are perfect.

I bought two different colors, each with the hot chocolate bottles, to give to my 9 yr and 6 yr old grandchildren. They love having a mug to call their own. The 11 oz. size is just right for their idea of a big mug of hot chocolate, and the trigger handles provide a steady grip for young fingers. The glaze colors are beautiful. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I recently bought three more. Love the classic white on white with glossy glaze, over the satin glaze. My parents had trigger mugs at their camp when I was a kid so I have been using them for 50+ years. They were thinner pottery then, some with diagonal geometric glaze patterns. The current splatter glazes are nice also.

Almost 60 years ago we bought 6 trigger handle mugs in Burlington. We have one remaining with a small chip. When I learned they were still available, I ordered 6. 4 for our daughter's forthcoming marriage in the school colors of green and white (MSU) and gold and brown (WMU). The remaining two for us are yellow and blue (U of M)....go Blu! My morning coffee tastes so good in my blue trigger handle mug!

We originally bought these mugs in the summer of 2012 at the store in Bennington. We have bought replacements on two occasions. The first replacements (Element Green) were a little lighter than our originals. For the second reorder we asked for darker mugs and those shipped were a perfect match.
Both times we were replacing mugs for chips on the rim, It finally dawned on me that the shelf where they were stored is crowded and the rims would clink whenever they were being put away. So we relocated a couple of items to make sure they would not bang into each other. So far, so good.

We love the design of our new trigger mug. Very comfortable to grasp. The description said it holds 11 oz. capacity. We find it only holds 9 oz. tops. Not a problem as long as we set our coffee maker on a lower setting.

Our family has had trigger mugs for years. When my son was ten and visiting grandparents in NH, he told my mom he liked her mugs and drank everything from one every day. She sent him home with one. Now he's 29 and asked what happened to Grandma's mugs. He has the only one so I ordered a couple for him for Christmas. Today I found out my cousins have a set of dishes including some mugs!

I've had six of the blue agate trigger mugs for at least 30 years now - the original six with no crazing, nicks, or roughness and they're used a lot. There are a number of other Bennington products in my home but these mugs are absolutely the best.
