"I have always loved your craftsmanship and dedication to stylish, functional artwares. I have a number of Bennington pieces in my kitchen and I treasure them all, from trigger mugs to the bowls and baking dishes. And although they all would look great behind glass in a collection somewhere, I put them all to good use." Dan V., Washington, DC |

Stoneware Mug | American Classic
An American classic - a large coffee or soup mug you'll love.
The location: A classic American diner, such as The Blue Benn Dining Car here in Bennington, Vermont. Gleaming chrome. Patsy Kline. While you linger over the newspaper, your waitress, Bernice, stops by to refill your large coffee mug with joe. Enjoy this timeless tradition at home, with Bennington Potters' American Classic mug. Makes a great soup mug too!

There Were Rules of Course
There were at least a dozen of us who brought a large coffee mug to work instead of using the puny paper ones by the coffee maker. Hooks to hang them hung by the communal sink so that we could dry and store our mugs conveniently. Someone started a contest to pick the most unique mug and rules were established. The mug had to be of handmade stoneware. The judges had to consider it a unique coffee mug or tea mug not a tea cup and saucer type. The pottery glaze was a very important consideration. The list went on. Obviously this called for a trip to my favorite pottery shop – Bennington Potters - American made stoneware pottery at its finest. A sure winner would be found there! I bought myself a blue agate trigger – their signature mug – a Tavernware tankard, and an American classic mug in a green glaze. The one I was sure was going to knock their socks off though was a very unique coffee mug with a pottery glaze called Mt. Equinox. Real arts and crafts pottery. Not only was I sure that it would win the contest for me, I was so sure it would be the gift for anyone on my something small but nice gift list I bought two dozen. No one else had a shot at winning the contest!
