Blue Boy
As a child I witnessed a pie eating contest. It was at the annual church fair. The table was lined with pie pans of every type. Aluminum pie pans, glass pie pans, deep dish pie pans, even handmade stoneware pie pans. Pies of all the usual fruit varieties - lovingly made by the church women. Some with fancy fluted crusts, some with latticed. The whistle blew and the pies flew! I had never seen anything so revolting! The boys - I don't think there were any girls - made pigs of themselves as they tried frantically to win what I am sure was probably not worth much even then. I don't remember who won the contest, but what I do remember is one boy's face being stained blueberry from the pie he'd eaten when he came to school the next day!
